| The Trust was established
in June 2001. Its goal is to put 1000 latest technology computers into
all 24 decile 1-3 schools in Porirua City, and 600 computers into the
homes of students from those schools, for use also by parents.
The Trust has been meeting every month, and individual board members meet in subgroups most weeks, to plan and implement the project.
Progress to date includes:
- A contract has been signed with the Board of
Aotea College as the first pilot school The pilot, with 60 latest
technology Sun Microsystems computers, commenced in February 2002
- Training for teachers in the pilot schools was
held on 24th January at Aotea College Training was provided by Sun
Microsystems and Whitireia Community Polytechnic
- The “computers in homes” part of the pilot at
Aotea College was launched in March 2002, with recycled computers
for 15 families, each supported by a mentor
- The pilot will be evaluated and lessons applied
- A contract was signed in June 2000 with Porirua
East School
- The next stage of rollout of the project to other
schools is being planned
